How the CUET Sanskrit paper is structured

CUET Sanskrit (paper 325) is listed with the domain subjects. Its ten items are grammar, prosody and poetics: word forms and case use, verb forms, sandhi, samasa, pratyaya, upapada vibhakti, language tasks, metres, figures of speech, and a general survey of Sanskrit literature.

There is no prescribed reading text. NCERT Vyakaranavithi covers the grammar items and NCERT Sanskrit Sahitya Parichay covers the literature survey.

Unit 1

शब्दरूपाणि - वाक्येषु विभक्तिप्रयोगाः

अजन्ताः - बालक, फल, रमा, कवि, मति, वारि, नदी, शिशु, धेनु, मधु, पितृ, मातृ, कर्तृ, सखि, दातृ, नृ, स्वसृ, अक्षि, गो, वधू।
हलन्ताः - राजन्, भवत्, आत्मन्, विद्वस्, वाच्, पथिन्, मरुत्, तादृश्, दिश्, धनिन्, पञ्चन्, अष्टन्, नवन्, दशन्।
सर्वनामानि - सर्व, तत्, यत्, किम्, इदम् (त्रिषु लिङ्गेषु), अस्मद्, युष्मद्।

Unit 2

धातुरूपाणि

परस्मैपदिनः - गम्, नम्, अस्, हस्, श्रु, नश्, आप्, शक्, इष्, प्रच्छ्, कृ, ज्ञा, भक्षू [sic, = भक्ष्], चिन्त्, नृत्, कथ्, नी, पच् (लट्, लृट्, लोट्, लङ्, विधिलिङ् इति पञ्चलकारेषु प्रयोगाः)
आत्मनेपदिनः - लभ्, सेव्, वन्द्, याच् (लट्-लृट्-लङ् लकारेषु)

Unit 3

सन्धयः सन्धिविच्छेदाः च

स्वरसन्धिः - दीर्घः, गुणः, वृद्धिः, यण्, अयादिः, पूर्वरूपम्।
व्यञ्जनसन्धिः - श्चुत्वम्, ष्टुत्वम्, जश्त्वम्, अनुनासिकः, अनुस्वारः, परसवर्णः।
विसर्गसन्धिः - उत्वम्, रत्वम्, लोपः, विसर्गस्थाने स्, श्, ष् आदेशाः।

Unit 4

समासाः विग्रहाः च

अव्ययीभावः - यथा, प्रति, उप, अनु, निर्, सह, अधि।
द्वन्द्वः - इतरेतरद्वन्द्वः, समाहारः, एकशेषः।
तत्पुरुषः - विभक्तितत्पुरुषः, कर्मधारयः, द्विगुः, उपपदतत्पुरुषः।

Cosmetic: 2025 'तादृक्' -> 2026 'तादृश्'; 2025 'अनुष्टुभ्' -> 2026 'अनुष्टुप्'; 2026 adds 'आदेशाः' after विसर्गस्थाने स्, श्, ष्.

What is the exam pattern of the CUET Sanskrit paper?

CUET UG Sanskrit (paper code 325) has 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions to be answered in 60 minutes. A correct answer earns 5 marks and a wrong answer costs 1 mark, so the paper is out of 250. This is the CUET UG 2026 pattern; NTA has not announced any change for 2027.

Has NTA released the CUET Sanskrit syllabus for 2027?
